Envision were appointed to develop a concept design for a new build community and youth hub in Crook, Durham. The concept design was to be financially viable, yet envelope a series of community requests.

The sites footprint is bounded by public footpaths, creating an oddity in shape. In order to maximise the available area of the site, it was decided that a triangular footprint would be followed.

At the heart of the community centre is the boxing club, placed at the most northern point of the site, with minimal high-level glazing to the south to stop the space overheating. The high-level windows allow for cross ventilation, with maximum glazing to the north facade for ample cool natural light.

The main community hub sits to the west as a two-storey building. The spaces housed within this hub are separated into loud on the ground floor, with links to outside, and quiet private spaces to the first floor.

The nursery is treat as a separate entity for security and safety and is housed to the eastern wing of the boxing club . A completely separate entrance is provided as well as an outdoor play area which is secured.
